The Community

An extended school is one that provides a range of activities and services, often beyond the school day, to help meet the needs of its pupils, their families and the wider community.

Schools are a key part of the communities in which they are located. So it makes sense that they should offer facilities that can be used by the wider community outside of school hours.

Both students and parents benefit from sharing in the learning experience and better access to support services. And by opening the school to the wider community through adult education and lifelong learning, skills levels within the wider community will be improved - an important part of regeneration.
